Dr. James Lane is the Managing Director of Praxis, a leading provider of educator pipeline and certification solutions. A nationally recognized education leader, he brings deep experience across K–12 policy, leadership, and assessment at the federal, state, and local levels, as well as in the nonprofit sector.
Before joining Praxis, Dr. Lane served as CEO of PDK International, where he led Educators Rising and Kappan magazine. He previously served as Acting Assistant Secretary for Elementary and Secondary Education at the U.S. Department of Education and was Virginia’s Superintendent of Public Instruction. Earlier in his career, he was superintendent in Chesterfield, Goochland, and Middlesex County Public Schools, and earlier served as a principal and band director. Dr. Lane was named Virginia Superintendent of the Year in 2017. Dr. Lane holds degrees from UNC-Chapel Hill, NC State, and the University of Virginia. A lifelong musician, he was inducted into the Carolina Beach Music Hall of Fame as a member of the Castaways.
